Hi, I’m Dana.

I am a research and instruction librarian and associate professor at Murray State University where I teach courses on visual literacy, information literacy, and book history. I also serve as the Assistant Dean of University Libraries.

My research interests focus on the intersection of visual literacy and news literacy, the integration of visual literacy instruction into higher education, and the scholarship of teaching and learning. I am active in the International Visual Literacy Association, currently serving in my second term as President, and am an Institute for Research Design in Librarianship scholar. I have presented papers at notable venues such as The Library Collective, American Libraries Association, Library Instruction West, Art Libraries Society of North America, and the International Visual Literacy Association.

I have taught information and visual literacy courses including:

  • INF 101: Research in the Information Age,

  • INF 261: Media Manipulation, Disinformation Campaigns, and the Role of Images;

  • INF 330: History of Libraries and the Written Word; and

  • GCM: Foundations of Visual Literacy.

I have also taught Visual Culture, Media, and Meaning in London, England as part of a CCSA Study Abroad program and am gearing up to teach Visual Culture, Media, and Meaning in Florence & Rome, Italy as part of the KIIS Study Abroad program.
